Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

For over a 100 years, Alpha Omega Chapter has had a distinguished history in Washington, D.C. Alpha Omega’s members have won national recognition for their ambitious programs and reclamation efforts, and the chapter has been home to most of the founders, including Founder Edgar A. Love, as well as to contemporary international and district officers.

Chapter Basilei

The Basilei of Alpha Omega

Alpha Omega Chapter was chartered in Washington, D.C. in 1922. In the century since, forty-eight brothers have served as its Basileus.

The first was Bro. C. Herbert Marshall, Sr., one of the nine men who chartered the chapter, who held the office from 1922 to 1928. Three more charter members followed him — Bro. C. Herbert Marshall, Jr., Bro. George E. Brice, and Bro. W. Spurgeon Burke — who together carried the chapter through the Depression and the Second World War. The fourth Basileus, Bro. W. Montague Cobb, served from 1934 to 1937 and went on to chair anatomy at Howard University for twenty-two years, to become the first African American to earn a doctorate in anthropology, and to give thirty-one years to the board of the NAACP. He had first learned Latin at Dunbar High School from Bro. Clyde McDuffie, of this chapter's charter line.

The list runs unbroken from there to Bro. Wendell Bugg, elected the chapter's 48th Basileus in 2025. Bro. Mark E. Jackson, Sr., who served as the 38th Basileus from 2004 to 2005, was elected 43rd Grand Basileus of the Fraternity in 2026.
