- Contestants who are “Home Schooled” must present verification from their school district that they are enrolled as a high school student.
- All presentations, including instrumental numbers, must be memorized and must be dignified and in good taste. Presentations that are not memorized cannot be considered for 1st place.
- Track music may be used for accompaniment if there is no lead instrumental or background vocals included on the track.
- The TALENT HUNT IS A COMPETITION AT THE LOCAL AND DISTRICT LEVELS.
- At the International level, the Talent Hunt is a demonstration only! There is no adjudication at the International level.
- The presentation performed or presented at the Chapter level shall be the same as performed at the District, and International level.
- The Chapter is responsible for all expenses incurred in taking its contestant to the District Talent Hunt.
Important Notes from the 3rd District
- Regardless of changes, our Talent Hunt will not tolerate vulgarity, profanity, revealing clothing, sexual gestures, use of insulting terminology such as the “B” or “N” words, etc.
- ALL performances must be 6 minutes or less and must be memorized! Deductions will be made if the time limit is exceeded.
- No background vocals are allowed for any performance category except for dance.
- Semi-classical instrumental and semi-classical vocal are replaced by the term contemporary in both situations. Students are allowed to sing/perform top 40 songs as well as Broadway/show tunes, jazz, R&B, pop, gospel, etc. but still must present the sheet music for their selection.
- The dance category will now include Hip Hop. The same dance criteria will be used as in the other dance forms (jazz, tap, modern, ballet). Twerking and other crude behavior such as crotch grabbing, will not be tolerated, and violators will be disqualified.
- The dramatic interpretation category will now include Rap. The same dramatic criteria will be used as in the other forms of drama (dialogue, monologue, poetry, etc.). Students must present a script of the rap just as is required for the other forms of drama. In music, songs composed by others are allowed to be performed. The same is true for rap. However, be careful as sometimes the language does not fit our expectations and should not be allowed. Instrumental
